Telephone Counselling Service

This is Becky, one of our volunteer counsellors, delivering telephone counselling to our patients and families. Thank you Becky for helping with this much needed service and adapting when face-to-face counselling isn’t presently possible.

We’re so grateful to all of our wonderful volunteers who help us across so many different areas at Longfield. In response to changing needs during the Covid-19 crisis and building on our well-established counselling and bereavement service, we have launched a telephone counselling service.

How we have adapted our counselling services.

The service aims to be responsive to need and provide an opportunity for hospice clients who were previously accessing the face-to-face service but are unable to at present due to the social distancing rules, to still access a professional service. The new telephone counselling service is also accepting new referrals from those living with life-limiting illnesses or those who have been bereaved.

A hospice counsellor oversees the service which is being delivered by a small group of trained and experienced volunteers just like Becky and provides a professional and confidential service to those living with a life-limiting illness or those who have been bereaved.

The feedback to date has been really positive, some clients were unsure about accessing counselling via the telephone, but after experiencing a session they have really welcomed talking through their worries or concerns and have benefited from re-starting or commencing their counselling.

For anyone wishing to access the service or self-refer-please call the hospice on 01453 886868  or email careservices@longfield.org.uk  We will return your call or email as quickly we possibly can.  The service is accessible to adults registered with a GP in Gloucestershire, or who live in Gloucestershire.
