Would you consider making a regular donation to help Longfield nurses care for more people and families faced with a loved one who is approaching the end of their life? Longfield nurses bring care, compassion and support for the whole family and help maintain dignity until the very end.

Lesley describes them as “Angels waiting for their wings”. This is her story.

"My husband Paul died just one day before our 50th wedding anniversary.   When he’d had the diagnosis, the doctor said, with the injections and regular tablets, that he should have ten years. He lasted less than one. I was sleeping beside his bed, but not very well because his sleep was very disturbed. The Longfield nurses could see that I was getting exhausted; they took over all the physical tasks and the pain control, and sat with him through the night as well as the day visits, so I was able to go back to just being his loving wife. They were so dignified and gave him his dignity.

I fed Paul and brushed his teeth, but at the end I just held his hand and told him I loved him.”

Like most people Paul wanted to die at home, in familiar surroundings, but only one in four people in Gloucestershire are able to do so. Lesley was able to care for Paul as a loving wife at home because she had the support of Longfield nurses.

We would like our nurses to help more people to die with dignity at home, like Paul did. You can help more people like Paul and Lesley in your community, by making a regular donation today.
