In Memory

Sarah Wang Hong Godwin

29 Jun 1962 - 01 Apr 2020

Sarah could make friends of anyone in the first ten minutes. Those who knew her for longer saw a strong brave woman, who dared much, endured disappointments, but faced the world with grace and determination.

From childhood in China’s Great Northern Wilderness during the Cultural Revolution, she took part in the tumultuous changes of the 1980s and 90s. She dared to quit a safe government job to launch a career in the private sector, earning great respect and affection from colleagues.

In retirement in Stroud she joined the Tennis Club, volunteered with the Ladies’ Allotment Group, and helped in the local Buddhist group. With encouragement from her friends she planned to join a choir, when illness intervened. Her last months were greatly eased by the caring, professional support from the NHS and Longfield Hospice at Home.

Sarah leaves behind her daughter Evelyn, and her husband Chris.
