Aim of role:

To provide garden help in the grounds.

Purpose:

The gardens are an important element in the provision of an attractive, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, as well as providing the opportunity for diversional therapy to patients.

Responsible to:

Caretaker/Handyman

Volunteer Tasks

  • Help with general maintenance of Longfield's grounds
  • Weeding; sweeping; strimming; watering. 
  • Develop various areas within the grounds in agreement with the Caretaker/Handyman
  • Help with the vegetable garden
  • Help maintain the flower borders
  • Help with mowing, strimming and edging lawns and grassed areas
  • Assist other volunteers or groups with gardening projects

Essential Qualities

  • An interest in gardening
  • Respect for the confidential nature of the work of Longfield and the patients who visit
  • Like being outdoors
  • Fit and active

Desirable Qualities

  • Know a weed from a garden plant!
  • Good at cultivating plants
