Aim of Role:

To provide a complementary therapy, or therapiesto our patients, working as a member of our Clinical Team. You will need to complete necesary documentation and give appropriate feedback following each treatment.

Responsible to:

Complementary Therapist Co-ordinator. You will also work alongside other Complementary Therapists, the Day Service Manager and Day Therapy Laad. 

Therapies currently offered are:

Therapeutic Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, and Adapted Head Massage.

Main Aim of Department:

To provide a comprehensive range of holistic complementary therapies to day therapy patients and outpatients including carers, family members and bereaved relatives. 


  • To provide complementary therapies, following Longfield's policies and guidelines.
  • To work as a member of a multi-professional clinical team, giving appropriate feedback to the clinicians.
  • To maintain accurate written documentation of treatments given.
  • To attend briefing and debriefing meetings and CT support meetings as appropriate.
  • To undertake clinical mandatory training.
  • To maintain professional competence by appropriate updates/training.
  • To undertake an appropriate induction both corporate and in role.

Essential Qualities:

  • Adequate professional training, professional indemnity insurance, membership of appropriate professional body.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team.
  • Ability to work in a flexible, mature, compassionate and confidential manner.
  • Commitment to following policies and guidelines drawn up by Longfield.
  • Ability to give regular commitment of attendance.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Good listening skills.
  • Non judgmental approach.
  • The ability to maintain a healthy perspective.
  • Willingness to reflect on one’s professional practice and learn from this.
  • Willingness to accept one’s limitations in some situations.
  • Experience of working with palliative care clients.
  • Two years of professional experience.
