Senior Management Team

Around 145, mostly part-time, staff work for Longfield in a huge variety of roles along with over 400 volunteers. Each person contributes towards our aim of providing care and support for people in Gloucestershire living with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers.

The organisation is managed by the Senior Management Team led by the Chief Executive.

Simon Bernstein - Chief Executive

Simon has 30 years’ voluntary sector experience. Before joining Longfield, he was CEO of Alive Activities, an award-winning Bristol-based social care charity. Prior to this he held interim director roles and provided consultancy for national and local charities, including health and social care, refugee, environmental, children’s and disability organisations.

Simon was Director of Communications & Fundraising at Friends of the Earth for five years, where he doubled income to £8m and introduced new branding internationally still being used today. He has an MBA from Imperial College and experience as a charity trustee and a school governor.

Rachel Jones - Head of Fundraising and Marketing

Rachel joined Longfield in April 2020, as Head of Fundraising and Marketing and a member of the Senior Management Team, having worked in the hospice sector for over 13 years.

Rachel is a very experienced and professional fundraising leader with a wealth of knowledge across all aspects of fundraising, with a particular interest in Digital Marketing and Fundraising. During her time in the charity sector Rachel has led on many successful campaigns and events, including leading and working alongside a team to deliver on yearly budgets of over £3.5 million, whilst working at St Richard’s Hospice. Rachel is passionate about the work of hospices and brings enthusiasm and energy to the team to create an innovative Fundraising calendar and strengthen the brand and profile of Longfield.

Ian Cherry - Director of Operations

Ian joined Longfield in August 2013. He previously worked for WHSmith for 37 years and his last role was Group Loss Prevention Director and before that he was a Regional Manager, Head of Central Operations and Entertainment Buying Manager.

Ian is a very experienced and professional retailer with a wealth of knowledge across all aspects of retailing. He also brings to the Hospice considerable strategic management skills as well as important commercial and business experience and knowledge.

Sue Parris - Director of Care Services

Sue Parris joined the executive team at Longfield Hospice as Care Director Services on 8 March 2021. Sue is a registered nurse with more than 30 years working in the NHS mainly in community settings.

As Director of Care Services, Sue is a member of the senior leadership team and responsible for the overall management of the care services team which includes our day services, carer and bereavement support, education and Hospice at Home. Her role also includes strategy, service development, service improvement and governance. In addition Sue is the Registered Manager for Longfield with a legal responsibility to ensure that the charity meets and complies with the national standards of quality and safety.

Myn Cotterill – Head of Finance

Myn joined Longfield in 2018, and is a fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants.

She also holds finance trustee roles in a number of local charities, and has worked in a variety of different sizes of companies over the last 20 years.
