Our Trustees set the strategy for the charity and work to ensure that we are meeting the changing needs of the people who require our care. All Trustees have a statutory duty of care and are personally accountable. They come from a variety of professional backgrounds across the county and volunteer their time free of charge.
Sally graduated in Medicine from Leeds University in 1984 and became a consultant in public health medicine in 1992. She has over 20 years of Board level experience in the NHS in Gloucestershire. She has maintained an interest in end of life care throughout her career, since publishing research on the perspective of carers in 1992. She now chairs the South West Clinical Senate, providing clinical advice to NHS England on all significant service change proposals in the South West of England and is the Responsible Officer for NHS Resolution, an arm’s length body of the Department of Health and Social Care, providing expertise on the resolution of concerns and disputes. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and is currently their assistant registrar.
Trustee Chris is a Registered Podiatrist and has recently retired from the local NHS having served for 45 years in numerous senior clinical, management and leadership roles.
Chris is passionate about linking research with front line clinical practice and in 2007 he gained a PhD in Social Sciences focused on older people and ‘person-centred’ care. Chris is also a Fellow of the College of Podiatry.
Andrew spent 20 years in the City in various investment related roles before joining St. James Place in 2003.
He is currently responsible for managing the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and Corporate, Social Responsibility activities.
Before retiring Martin was Finance Director of several large Financial Services Companies including Zurich and St, James’s Place. Prior to that he was an Actuarial Consultant in the City. He has lived in Kemble since 1990 and retired in 2011. His interests include Rock Music, Football (particularly West Bromwich Albion) and travel. Martin has a Maths degree from Bristol University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
Martin has over 25 years marketing experience across a variety of different sectors, in organisations ranging from SME’s and start-ups to global corporations such as Nike. He combines his Trustee work at Longfield with executive and advisory roles in the commercial sector.
Jane is an occupational therapist. She graduated from the Welsh School, Cardiff in 1987; gained a master’s qualification at Exeter University and a PhD from City University, London. She worked in Gloucestershire’s NHS services for more than 25 years. Jane is now the Strategic Research Lead (Health and Social Care) at the University of Gloucestershire and holds a national advisory role with Health Education England.
Jane has a personal interest in supporting the work of Longfield to ensure that those with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones gain the best care.
Wendy trained in IT, and after a brief period working in Hong Kong spent several years running training courses on IBM and Apple computers. In the 1990’s, whilst bringing up three boys, she joined Minchinhampton Surgery (NHS) and completed an MSc in Health Informatics and a diploma in Primary Care Management.
Until her retirement from Practice Management in 2019, Wendy enjoyed working in the local healthcare community.
Her interests include walking her dogs, yoga, swimming and skiing; arts and reading as well as recent grandparent duties.
Carrie is a retired Chartered Physiotherapist who was Head of Service and Research Governance for a local NHS Trust. She worked on various committees at local, and regional levels for Research and Development, and nationally for the Chartered Society regarding CPD, Postural Care for People with Profound and Multiple Disabilities and Physiotherapy for People with Learning Disabilities. She now runs a small fabric, wool and haberdashery shop in Dursley and is an active member of the church and other local groups. This gives her more time to spend with her family and camping with her grandsons who affectionately call her Naughty Nanna!
Baroness Fritchie is an Independent Crossbench Peer and a former House of Lords Audit Committee member. For seven years, Rennie was Chair of Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, and for a decade, she was Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire.
Rennie was previously Commissioner for Public Appointments for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and also a Civil Service Commissioner. In the NHS, she was Chair of the South West Region, a member of the National Policy Board and more recently, Chair of a Mental Health Foundation Trust.
Rennie has been awarded honorary degrees from the following universities: Southampton, York, Hull, Oxford Brookes, St. Andrews Scotland, Queens University Belfast and The Open University.
